A while back I was in a major transition and had lots of difficult events happening all at once. Outcomes that I was expecting (always watch out for those expectations-they can quite often lead to disappointment and whack you in the back of your head) didn’t pan out. My stability and groundedness were severely challenged. My Ego/mind was having a hay day! I was going into all the “what ifs” and was not very happy about having to face the “void” and not knowing my next step.
Major change like this can be very scary and I was certainly feeling this anxiety in every part of my body.
Then one morning I woke up to this thought and it was very loud:
“you are scaring yourself”.
I started to laugh, because that is exactly what I was doing, scaring the heck out of myself with all these challenging thoughts about not having the stability that I had counted on.
Thoughts = how you feel= what shows up in your life!
Plant corn and you get corn. Plan thistles and you get thistles. Our thoughts are like seeds we are planting and they can grow beautiful things for us or create disaster. It’s not actually the thoughts that generate what we attract, but rather the feelings the thoughts create. Happy thoughts and you feel pretty good and good shows up. Negative thoughts and you feel pretty crappy and that is usually when crap shows up.
Pretty simple recipe for an easy life, but not always easy to tame the “monkey mind”.
So we need to be vigilant as to what we are thinking because that creates the landscape we live in. So when a major event happens to us that shakes the ground we walk on, we need to stop the scary thoughts and create thoughts that helps us calm down. In my case I quickly changed the dialogue to “I didn’t get what I had expected, but that must mean something better is down the road and all will work out as it always does. I haven’t ended up as a “bag lady” as yet-so something is going very right”.
When you stress all the positives and change the inner dialogue, the body starts to relax and clam down.
What type of thoughts are running through your mind?
Are they planting seeds for good stuff to show up or adding more stress to your life?
How are those thoughts making you feel?
What would happen if you really focused on life enhancing thoughts about yourself and others?
What could you create?
Check out my book “How to Get Out of Your Own Way” for an abundance of tools (I call them transformers) to support the process of creating positive thoughts.
